John Chakmak

Mr. Chakmak is a founding member of Buxbaum  & Chakmak, A Law Corporation, and has practiced law in California since 1971.  He specializes in business, real estate, insurance law, and civil litigation.  He has litigated "high profile" cases, including claims for  health insurance benefits for AIDS, discrimination suits, and cancellations of  master health insurance policies. He has represented clients in numerous  appellate court decisions that have established legal precedent in California  law.

He has served as a private mediator in cases involving business, insurance, and real estate related disputes.  He has also served as a court appointed  arbitrator.

Mr. Chakmak has extensive experience in business, real estate, and insurance transactions.  He has been a licensed California real estate broker since 1978. He has been a media resource for issues relating to the insurance industry.  He has been interviewed on ABC network television, Fox Television News, and the Cable News Network, and has participated on public television panels on legal issues.  He has been quoted by such media sources as Newsweek, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Examiner, and numerous other newspapers and periodicals.

David A. Buxbaum

Mr. Buxbaum is a graduate of Occidental College where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree.  He receive his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law.  During law school Mr. Buxbaum worked with a faculty member on the research and writing of a legal reference book on urban planning.  His contributions were acknowledged in the book.  He was an editor of various publications at  the law school.  Mr. Buxbaum was also an editor of a local bar association journal for many years while in professional practice.

Mr. Buxbaum is a founding member of the firm and has practiced law in California since 1970.  His professional affiliations include the American Bar Association, California Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and local bar associations.

Mr. Buxbaum has served in various local city government positions, including chairman of the City of Claremont Planning Commission.  Mr. Buxbaum is active with numerous non-profit foundations and boards and is currently a trustee of many local educational and charitable organizations.  He has founded and organized a regional national bank, in addition to establishing thousands of corporations in his capacity as a business attorney.  Mr. Buxbaum has also been selected to serve as a hearing officer in disciplinary actions involving professionals.  Mr. Buxbaum has extensive experience in representing the firm's clients before State of California and federal regulatory agencies, such as the  California Department of Insurance, California Banking Department, California Commissioner of Corporations, and United States Comptroller of Currency.

Mr. Buxbaum's expertise is in the areas of business, banking,  insurance, finance, taxes, estate planning, and real estate.

Charles L. Zetterberg

Mr. Zetterberg is a graduate of Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree with honors in a combined major of government, history and economics.  In 1968 he received a L.LB Degree from Columbia University, New York, New York.  Following law school he was a Law Clerk to the Honorable Leonard P. Moore, United States Circuit Judge, 2nd Circuit.

He was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1971 and is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.  He joined the firm in 1987 and became a Principal of the firm in 1989.

Mr. Zetterberg has been a lead attorney in major class actions involving national corporations, and in landmark cases concerning defense of insurance discrimination actions.

He has been a speaker and panelist in numerous professional education programs on litigation and class action topics.  He has served as officer in a local trial attorney organization and as a committee chairman in a statewide trial attorney organization.

Mr. Zetterberg and his family are residents of Claremont, California.  He has been active in community affairs, serving as a member of Claremont's Environmental Quality Board and as member of the fund raising committee for the community's senior center.

Mr. Zetterberg specializes in business litigation and insurance litigation.

John P. Howland

Mr. Howland has been an attorney since 1967. He specializes in estate planning, probate, conservatorships, business, contracts and real estate law.   He prepares estate planning documents which can maximize the distribution of estate benefits, reduce or eliminate estate taxes and provide for special situations such as disabled children, and beneficiaries with drug or alcohol problems.

Mr. Howland represents clients in trust matters, probates, and conservatorships in courts throughout Southern California.  Mr. Howland also advises new and existing businesses on corporate record keeping, capital investment, benefits, mergers and sales.  He has been a speaker at seminars and meetings in the areas of estate planning and business.

Mr. Howland is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Pennsylvania Law School.  He was an Assistant Vice-President in Beneficial Management Corporation’s legal department; and subsequently promoted to General Counsel of Benevest, Inc., a nationwide title insurance and California escrow company owned by Beneficial.  He joined Buxbaum & Chakmak in 1988.  Mr. Howland is a member of the California State Bar Association and past president of the Pomona Valley Estate Planning Council.  He is active in the Claremont community where he has served as President, Director and chair of numerous committees for the Claremont Chamber of Commerce.  He has also served on the Board of the Pilgrim Place, a large Claremont retirement community and on the City’s Sustainable Development Task Force.  He is a member of the Claremont Rotary.

Juliet P.H. Kane

Juliet P. H. Kane has been an attorney since 2010. She specializes in estate planning and probate.   She works closely with clients to meet their individual needs, including preparing estate planning documents which maximize the distribution of estate benefits, reducing or eliminate estate taxes, and providing for special situations such as disabled children, and beneficiaries with problems.  Ms. Kane represents clients intrust matters and probates throughout the Inland Empire and eastern Los Angeles. 

Ms. Kane is a Claremont native, graduate of the University of Southern California and UCLA School of Law.  She previously worked as a corporate attorney at Chadbourne & Parke, and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.

Dan Hanoum

Mr. Hanoum received his undergraduate degree from California State University Long Beach graduating with Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy in 1987. He received his Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Washington School of Law in 1991.  While at law school he was appointed as an Administrative Law Judge for the University of Washington Traffic Court.

Mr. Hanoum was admitted to the State Bar of Washington in 1991 and the State Bar of California in 1993. He has also been admitted to practice law in United States Federal Court.

Mr. Hanoum's professional involvement has included memberships with the Orange County Bar Association and the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

Mr. Hanoum has extensive experience in criminal law, family law, and general civil litigation. He currently practices in the areas of family law, domestic violence, civil litigation, real estate, real property, and probate and trust litigation.
